iTunes Review

Rather than issue a “Greatest Hits” collection to sum up their past twenty years, the Black Crowes decided to eyeball their catalog and reinvent their favorite tunes with acoustic arrangements. It’s an obvious move for a band that has always held onto their rock and pre-rock roots. Their Southern charm, where they’ve taken back roots music from their British rock heroes (the Rolling Stones, the Faces), has never let them down as long as singer Chris Robinson can knowingly leer into the lyrics. Acoustic or not, the funk is still there for the sweaty workouts of “Remedy,” “Jealous Again” and “Downtown Money Waster,” while an elegiac mood carries “She Talks to Angels,” “Ballad In Urgency” and Gram Parsons’ “She.” The electric organ provides the extra boost to help these acoustic guitar-wielding rockers over the classic rock mountain. Bonus tracks, “Boomer’s Story” and Little Feat’s “Willin’” are welcomed additions to what is fast becoming an impeccable catalog of tunes. Their 2008 comeback Warpaint reinvigorated the band and Before the Frost/ Until the Freeze solidified their place as one of America’s finest rock ‘n’ roll bands.

Been waiting for this for a long time

Most of these tracks are familiar, but they are crisp, musically full, and full of nice suprises. Flawless example of the sophistication The Black Crowes can achieve when they knuckle down. Fantastic. Best Rock n Roll band in Rock n Roll, Sho-Nuff. A heart-felt "See you on down the road". The sincere 20-year thanks, is loud and clear.

A perfect goodbye for now

If you've ever been a fan of the Crowes, buy this. These aren't pointless rehashings, they're fantastic recreations of the songs that made us love the band in the first place, all played with the passion the boys have re-sparked in recent years. Some of the songs ramble on for 7 minutes or more but you'll never notice. This is the sound of a band riding high on its second wind. Let's hope this upcoming break isn't for long.

AWESOME!!!

I'll i'm gonna say is WOW!! love the stripped down versions of some Classic Crowes tunes..

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

At the time of their 1990 debut, the kind of rock & roll the Black Crowes specialized in was sorely out of style. Only Guns N' Roses came close to approximating a vintage Stones-style raunch, but they were too angry and jagged to pull it off completely. The Black Crowes, on the other hand, replicated that Stonesy swagger and Faces boogie perfectly. Vocalist Chris Robinson appropriated the sound and style of vintage Rod Stewart, while brother Rich Robinson fused Keith Richards' lean guitar attack...
