A Promise Fulfilled

From the first time I heard Eric Himan, I knew there was something special about him. He doesn’t play to stereotypes or fit into specific genres – an acoustic musician in an age of techno-beats and lip-synched celebrities. He’s a soul-singer from the sixties combined with a folk-singer from the seventies, his feet planted squarely in the 21st century. But here on "Resonate", which sounds more like a sequel to 2005’s "Dark Horse" then 2006’s "Everywhere All At Once, Eric is a blunt-force rocker who tells it like it is. That doesn’t mean there aren’t tender moments. In fact the opening song “Wish You Would” is about as tender a goodbye to passed love as anyone has written since Annie Lennox asked “Why?” And “He's Using You” is a classic R&B soul-searcher that could have been right at home on a Nina Simon album. But songs like “Little Boy Blue” (I can’t wait to see the video), “For Me”, and “In Demand” gives this album a harder and tougher edge than anything Eric has done in the past. I can’t help but feel happy about that. "Resonate" has a more centered vibe than any of his previous work, indicative of an artist who is coming into his own – or is that a boy becoming a man? You can feel the mussels flexing - as if to say “Watch out world – Eric Himan is all grown up!”

This Resonates Alright...

Soon-to-be legendary (and in some circles already is) Eric Himan, pulls out all the stops in a new disc which showcases his talents like never before, without obscuring his secret weapon which his amazing vocals. At his best on Open the Door, Only, Little Boy Blue. But, dont' miss the bonus track, There's Gotta Be Something (band version). Great cd from an artist who while is in demand, but can still use the dollars!

I've been listening to Eric since his first cd, and have watched him grow both lyrically and musically. This is an amazing album that moves you. Every song tells a story, that in some way can relate to your life. I love it, and hope you do too!
