Returning to the venue and instruments from its original performance, Martin Hasleböck’s interpretation of Beethoven’s Ninth is academic and far-reaching, recreating many of the dramatic gestures likely to have been heard in the composer’s time. Its “Scherzo” gets a well-paced reading that aims for transparency and power.
