The Long Wait Is Finally Over, and my mind is blown!

I'm still not sure why this album was held up for so long; I know that there were several rumors going around as to why, but none of that drama is really important now... All I want to say that it is absolutely and without any doubt worth the long wait! This impressive showcase of the band's 2008 Reunion Tour has all the great RTF songs (I do miss Captain Senor Mouse though) juxtaposed with simply mindbending improvisations within... together they make for probably the most exciting aural experience of '09 (On that note, don't miss the FIve Peace Band Album either!). If fusion jazz is your bag, then you no doubt have been fiending for this album for awhile. Be good to your ear-hole and buy this immediately! These are simply amazing performances of some of the most technically demanding and aurally satisfying music of all time.

The Masters Elivating their Standards again!!!!!

For me these guys are master's who for years have set the standards. There are others for sure but these are no less members of that elite status. My review is specific to both the album and live video performance. (Yes there is a high def video.. Montreaux Jazz 2008 of these tracks!) The performances are nothing short of outstanding and to see it in video was totally breath taking for me. I was so overwhelmed from the onset I couldn't actually watch the entire performance without a break to calm my emotional excitement! Years of perfecting my audio system was brought to bear by one of the classic albums I had when I started to build it around RTF back then and now re-newed with their modern day skills and energy in it's high definition glory! I am fullfilled in too many ways to express it all hear from this album and video! Run out an get them both! Should it come to Blu-ray I will purchase again!

Great performance, sound quality so-so

I saw these guys in concert in Phoenix and was blown away. This is a group of jazz musicians that simply cannot be rivalled. There's not much I can add about the musicianship and music that the other reviewers haven't already mentioned.

While the sound quality is generally very good, there seems to have been some sort of compression put on the whole mix which is annoying. Perhaps this was done for purposes of the live show amplification, but if that was the case, then they could have fed their recording equipment at some point before the compression in the signal chain. This is the only flaw in an otherwise beautiful performance.

Biography

Formed: 1971

Genre: Jazz

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

Jazz keyboard player Chick Corea's Return to Forever emerged as one of the key jazz-rock fusion bands of the 1970s. Like Weather Report and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, they were formed by an alumnus of Miles Davis' late-'60s bands with the intention of furthering the jazz-rock hybrid Davis had explored on albums like Bitches Brew. At the time, this was seen as a means of creativity, a new direction for jazz, and as a way of attracting the kinds of large audiences enjoyed by rock musicians. Return to...
