Album Review

Even the most die-hard extreme metal fan would have to admit that out of all the heavy metal subgenres, it is probably the most one-dimensional-sounding of all. Seemingly, just about every single band that fits under the extreme metal umbrella follows the same game plan — screams, growls, gonzoid guitar riffing, and metronome-perfect drumming. And on their 2009 release, Guardians, the Westerville, OH-based quintet Crimson Armada certainly fit this description. But according to a press release issued around the time of the album's release, what sets Crimson Armada apart from the rest of the extreme metal pack is that they supposedly promote "a positive spiritual message through their music and meaningful lyrics going beyond the trend of broken relationships or pure brutality." Well, we'll have to take the label's word on this — as evidenced by such tracks as "Guardian" and "In the Eyes of God," good luck trying to decipher what lead growler Saud Ahmed is saying without the aid of a lyric sheet.

Simply Outstanding Workmanship

Deathcore at its finest! Amazing workmanship, technicality at its finest! So here is my review of the album: 1.) Guardian ~ 9/10 Amazing lyrics, love the vocals, and the guitar work is just stunning! 2.) A Filthy Addiction ~ 9/10 An oldie right here! Definitely buy this song, it is full of stunning breakdowns, and colorful guitar riffs! 3.) The Sound, the Flood, the Hour ~ 9/10 Catchy, love the vocals, and the breakdowns are epic as hell. BUY THIS! 4.) In the Eyes of God ~ 10/10 GOD GOD GOD I love this song! By far the heaviest song here! The lows are just deliciously… LOW! 5.) The Serpents Tongue ~ 10/10 Definitely another flawless song, love the chorus, and the breakdowns are really catchy. 6.) Revelations ~10/10 Another oldie, definitely another flawless song, the intro to the song is so… metalcore! Love it! 7.) Desecrated ~ 10/10 Killer vocals, gnarly blast beats, epic breakdowns, and catchy bass lines! 8.) The Final Words ~ 8/10 Amazing technical work! Love the vocals, and the guitarists just did an excellent job on this song! OLDIE!!!! 9.) The Architect ~ 10/10 Oldie! By far, has the best breakdown in the entire album! The intro kicks so much butt! 10.) Outro ~ 4/10 Just a simple outro, nothing special, just some piano work. AVOID THIS! Overall, the album is flawless. I feel like this album will definitely be considered one of the best albums of 2009 for sure! I mean half of the album is off of their EP “Behold the Architect”, but its okay as seeing that all of the re-recorded songs are just better this way! Love the guitar solos, the vocalist’s highs and lows, heavy bass lines, and amazing technical work by the drummer. Definitely check out their previous work, and definitely buy this album! Freakin’ amazing… all I have to say about this album is that, it is heavy, full of breakdowns, and the vocals are stunning. BUY THIS NOW!!!!!

An awesome CD from a great band. End of story.

Please don't be influenced by the "official" review above, the one published by iTunes. I'm not sure who they recruited to write it, but they got it all wrong. This band is a great bunch of guys who really do have great lyrics and a great message. This CD is amazing, The Crimson Armada are my favorite local band, straight outta central Ohio. They have the cleanest riffs, great drumming, and unbelievably brutal breakdowns. Probably my favorite aspect of TCA is Saud's vocals, they really set the music apart. He has such a great range, and his lows are unbelievable. As far as not being able to understand the lyrics, especially on the songs the iTunes reviewer mentioned, I can't see where they are coming from. Sorry, but I love this CD and I love this band.

Whoever did that "official review" should seriously be fired.

Come on, we really don't care what a 13 year old girl thinks about death metal. If you're a Hannah Montana fan, don't review the Crimson Armada.
