After a band shakeup, Before Their Eyes makes a confident comeback with the bracing yet tuneful Redemption. New guitarists Jordan DiSorbo and Brandon Rosier fill the gap left by departing member Landon Tewers, helping push the Findlay, Ohio, quintet toward a more aggressive sound. Lead singer Nick Moore has an impressive ability to shift between clean vocal passages and harsh outbursts, underscoring the spiritual conflicts in the band’s songs. Redemption flexes its rock muscles with punishing riffage and volleys of beats on “Backstabber,” “Revenge," and “Revival” (the latter featuring Tewers in a guest appearance). As before, BTE embeds hopeful Christian-themed lyrics within volatile musical settings. “Alive” (carried by Jarrett Hottman’s heroic drumming) and “Find” (a seeker’s anthem with plenty of blazing fretwork) don’t stint on the band's faith or its ferocity. The prayerful ballad “Everything” is a particular standout, building from atmospheric verses into an expansive arena-rock chorus.
