Album Review

The eponymous fourth long-player from Boston-based progressive/technical death metal outfit Revocation arrives two years after 2011's critically acclaimed Chaos of Forms, which found the quartet earning comparisons to metal institutions like Pantera and Tool and current decibel-crushing provocateurs like Converge, Mastodon, and Goatwhore. Preceded by the album's first singles, "The Hive" and "Invidious," the Relapse Records-issued Revocation debuted in the Top 200, landing at the number four spot on the Heatseekers chart., Rovi

Sick

As a consumer of numerous metal bands since commencement of the genre in the 70's, I'm not sure I've seen quite a quantum leap in the category since the arrival of Revocation. Guitarist David Davidson is the Jeff Beck of metal, fusing jazz among other influences and wrenching all kinds of interesting textures from his muscular playing. Drop what you are doing and go buy this album immediately. Must for metalheads and guitar hero fans as well. -TB 10-18-13
