Taking over where Public Enemy left off...

X-vandals (MC Not4Prophet and DJ Johnny Juice) is a mixture of old school hip-hop mixed with a punk rock aesthetic. The album goes from nostalgic melancholy with tracks like "Sweatshop Basquiat" and "Signs Of The Surface" to utter defiance with "Life Is Warfare" and "Beat The System". You can tell that these guys know what they're doing because they are able to take those seemingly two opposing emotions (nostalgic melancholy and utter defiance) and bring them together on the hauntingly beautiful and angry track "A Poem For Black Boys". They're hardcore hip-hop cover of Bob Dylan's "Masters Of War" is not just timely but brilliant. Not4Prophet isn't afraid to show the DJ some love, unlike so many hip-hop artist today and let's Juice create some masterful tracks tracks like "There Goes The Neighborhoods" and "Up In The Bronx". X-vandals is intelligent and dangerous like Public Enemy was/is but they don't forget to give you a strong foundation of beats in the same way that PE did. They are picking up where PE left off and taking it to the next level. Some of this can be attributed to DJ Johnny Juice who is a member of Public Enemy and Not4Prophet whose flow while in the seminal NYC Puerto Rican Hardcore Punk band RICANSTRUCTION (pick up anything by them and you won't be disappointed) was heavily influenced by Chuck D. but the continuation of the PE mission is less homage and more building on the foundation PE laid down. THE WAR OF ART is true school independent conscious revolutionary hip-hop. This album should be a classic but only time and word of mouth will tell...
