Lang Lang's interpretation of these compositions is stunning. I would love to hear what he would do with Brian Crain's Piano Opus.
Magical this is not
Just sampling the tracks, like Track 8, the famous Piano concerto No. 2, it sounds mechanical rather than lyrical, and mournful rather than magical. And if this orchestra is Russian, then that is a sad commentary too. There are, indeed, adequate demonstrations of skill and technique, but the interpretative manner in which this track, and others, are rendered does not add positively to the catalogue of others performing the same works. Why buy this when a host of classic and modern interpretations exist that are much more satisfying and true to the score? And if youth is the interest here, then buy the 1958 recordings of Van Cliburn when he won the Tchaikovsky competition -- at age 23.
Lang Lang has been able to capture the spirt of classical music, and develope a wonderful arangment of songs in one CD. Amazing
