This version of "No One Is to Blame" is more haunting and truer to the lyrics through the somber piano than the produced-for-the-masses tripe that was put out as a single. As a Howard Jones fan in the 80s, I hurled when I heard the Phil Collins pop machine yank the soul from this song. By the way, the PC version is not "only available on the One to One album." It was originally released on an EP with other mixes of tracts from the Dream Into Action LP.

No One is to Blame

I have seen Howard Jones in concert many times. At one performance in San Diego he sang this "No One is to Blame" version and when he got to the line, "it's the last piece of the puzzle but you just can't make it fit" someone in the front row tossed puzzle pieces onto the piano and stage and Howard totally cracked up! It was moment I will never forget. I can't stand that Sirius FIRST WAVE channel 22 always plays the newer <ruined> version. It's the original or nothing for me.

Rhino does it again

Rhino Records has a crazy method of finding those tunes that are just overlooked, and placing them in collections for people to rediscover again. This particular collection of Howard Jones is one of those kinds of collections. These songs, like most in the High Five collection, are songs that you either heard, or have heard of, but never were able to put a name too. Reasonably priced with good music by the artists, they're usually a steal. What attracted me to this albulm was the song What is Love?, which I feel is one of the defining songs of the 80's, and is always one that gets my blood pumping in one fashion or another. It's exciting and it's weep inducing at the same time, with that synth sound that seemed only to live in the 80's. Jone's collection is well worth your money.

Howard Jones was one of the defining figures of mid-'80s synth pop. Jones' music merged the technology-intensive sound of new wave with the cheery optimism of hippies and late-'60s pop. Jones racked up a string of hits in the mid-...
