Kander & Ebb At Their (Relatively Undiscovered) Best!

TheTruthOfTheMatter,

Um, there's nothing to question, kids. The 1984 musical "The Rink" ranks as one of Kander & Ebb's best scores and one of the best of the '80's. Period. Rivera and Minnelli deliver powerful performances here as does the supporting cast; especially a very pre-Seinfeldien Jason Alexander with "Marry Me". True, the show was not a major hit primarily because of book problems (sorry Mr. McNally!) but true musical theater afficianados cherish "The Rink". The score is not as well-known as "Cabaret" and "Chicago" but I'll take "The Rink" (and for that matter "Woman Of The Year") over them and day!

Wow. Liza and Chita?!?!

AJM93,

I did not think it could have been any better to have these two amazing stage actresses do this piece together. The musical is pretty good in theory but apparently on stage it had quite a bit of flaws. The recordings are clear and loud enough to satisfy anyone. Get it.
