iTunes Editors’ Notes

There really couldn't be a better title for Danko Jones’ sixth studio album than Rock and Roll is Black and Blue, as it finds the Toronto trio bludgeoning the listener with jackhammer guitar riffs, courtesy of the band’s axe wielding namesake. Even his vocals throw punches here. In the opening cut “Terrified,” he spits out lyrics like nails, sometimes sounding like Rated R era Queens Of The Stone Age and other times like an angry Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy. If guitar riffs were cuts of meat, the ones executed in the following “Get Up” would be a whole beef brisket, marbled with dense patches of fat distortion. Taking a cue from ZZ Top, Jones celebrates skinny stems in “Legs,” a tune that battles “Type of Girl” for the sexiest song on the album. Where the former slithers with a serpentine sultriness, the latter rocks with a tight denim strut. Where those two songs put the opposite sex on pedestal; the hard chugging “You Wear Me Down” cuts his muse down to size.

Danko Jones Rock kings

The best least known rock band on the planet. This album kicks just like all their other stuff.

Do yourself a favor & Buy This Album

I can't get enough of this magnificent masterpiece of Rock! Sure, I'm a Danko Jones junkie but you have to admit this album has it all from the sexy & bluesy (bound to be used by a pole dancer) tune You Wear Me Down which I personally canNOT get enough of & was hoping for, to the punk anthems I Don't Care & The Masochist to the more rock radio playable Get Up. Atom Willard, thank you for helping to launch this Rocksplosion! Danko & JC thank you for showing everyone how Rock & Roll is meant to be done; You fight for what you want, you don't give up & you get better like a finely aged Horchata, teasing but you get the point.

So..

I have been a fan of Danko since '99. I look forward to every album with the same enthusiam as I did back then. If I had to rate all his albums, this one would be unfortunately in the second last spot, with "Never Too Loud" being last. Not a total misfire, there are some good songs on here, just not great ones. "Just A Beautiful Day", "Conceited", You Wear Me Down" are highlights for me and will be great live, but some other the other songs drag, especially "In Your Arms". Like most of his records, the B-sides tend to be better than most songs that make the cut, so I look forward to any from this album. I hope people who buy this record will check out his entire discography and not judge him solely on this outing. Also, Atom Willard is a fantastic addition to the band and easily the best drummer they've had so far.
