Simply perfect.

This album is nothing less than a classic. This album has definitely been worth the wait. The gorgeous, perfectly fractured electronic instrumentation is the perfect backdrop for all of the powerful voices featured on this album, while still retaining the tinge of melancholy Life Is Full Of Possibilities featured so abundantly. Jimmy Tamborello's evolution of his sound is smart, and refined. Relying less on meandering song structures, there are more solid pop songs on this album, which makes things flow perfectly. This album, like all of Tamborello's work will be on heavy rotation in my library for years and years to come. For all of us, let's just not hope that there is such a significant gap of output from this talented artist.

A Different Kind of Unexpected

I must admit that when I bought Dumb Luck, I was hoping for something closer to Life is Full of Possibilities - a mix of complex instrumental/electronic tracks interspersed with vocal tracks made all the more poignant by their rarity. This is not the case. Dumb Luck turns out to be an album most notable for its lyrical diversity - often deep and sad, but ultimately cathartic. The contributions of Mia Doi Todd, Conor Oberst, and Grizzly Bear are especially compelling. While I miss the instrumental tracks of Life is Full of Possibilities, I won't deny that Dumb Luck has a lot to offer. The album sounds like "Dntel" in its unique blend of built orchestration, ambiant undertones, and scratchy buzz. I can't imagine that a hardcore fan will regret the purchase, and I suspect Dumb Luck will appeal to a broader base than other work by this provocative artist.

This is a gem
