Album Review

Released five years after the perfectly adequate Greatest Hits (and just a couple weeks prior to the premier episode of Being Bobby Brown), this 20th Century Masters compilation is very similar, though it does contain three less tracks. That makes it fairly redundant and inferior, but it is a decent substitute if you can't find a copy of the earlier set. Ranging chronologically from 1986's "Girlfriend" through the hits off 1992's Bobby, it wisely stops short of including anything from 1997's dismal Forever and contains Brown's impressive run on the R&B and pop charts. The only thing that has not stood the test of time is his rap on the Ghostbusters 2 theme "On Our Own" (though it's even funnier now).

I love Bobby's music and this album is a must. It's got every hit. Except the ringtones for these songs!!! why can't we get the ringtones? He needs the money, doesn't he?

Bobby boy...

This album is a straight classic. Bobby did his thing, this brings back memories for real. (Flat tops, gumbies and patent leather shoes man) Britney?... remaking something from Bobby? that's hillarious, it doesn't even make sense lol. As for 90210, that's where someone needs to stay obviously.

One of the brightest R&B stars of the late '80s and early '90s, Bobby Brown was the performer who popularized new jack swing, a blend of classic soul, synth-funk, and hip-hop rhythms that often featured rap breaks in between the conventionally melodic verses and choruses. Guy's Teddy Riley may have been new jack's greatest innovator, but Brown was its greatest hitmaker, crossing over to pop audiences with his blockbuster Don't Be Cruel album and thus making new jack swing the dominant trend in R&B...
