Album Review

Looking back, it's possible to see the roots of blink-182's tuneful frat punk on Cheshire Cat, but the fact of the matter is, this isn't as good an album as the ones that came later. That doesn't mean it's bad, since it skates by on its impish pranks and brash musicality, but the group is rather scattershot here, hitting the target as often as they miss it. There's enough here to dig into if you're a fan, but you have to be a fan to appreciate it.

Old School Blink!!

this is actually a really good album. songs like carousel, m+m's, wasting time, and touchdown boy have a great sound and it really shows that blink-182 was a great band even back in 1998. m+m's is one of my favs

Cheshire Cat

I really love this album. It's a lot different than how blink sounds today, it's more punk than alternative. But I think that they sound great either way. The great thing about blink is that they sing about things that relate to your life and actually have a meaning to you. I really think the lyrics are great for all of these songs. And I think that all of them are worth buying. The guitar in this album is really great too, I love the beginning of Carousel, it's almost like an adventure. It sounds really cool. The best songs on this album are (in no order): Carousel, M+M's, Strings, Peggy Sue, Wasting Time, and of course I can't forget Depends. The last three songs on this album, Ben Wah Balls, Just About Done, and Depends, are written in purple on the back of the CD case because they are joke songs. I think these are hilarious. Ben Wah Balls is about some guy who some how falls in love with his daughter. Just About Done is one of the weirdest songs I've ever heard, but it's hilarious. They repeat "Just about done with your butt, we'll let you know. hey!" several times in different ways while making weird noises. It's really weird. Depends is about well... not being able to control your bladder. There's some really funny lines in this song. It's become one of my favorite songs between my friends and I. We always joke about it. So to wrap it all up, BUY THIS ALBUM.

The new-school punk trio blink-182 were formed in the suburbs of San Diego, California around guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus, and drummer Scott Raynor. Originally known as simply Blink, the band debuted in 1993 with a self-released EP, Fly Swatter. After releasing the album Buddha in 1994, the trio signed to Grilled Cheese/Cargo and released Cheshire Cat the following year. The threat of a lawsuit from a similarly named Irish band forced them to change their name to...
