Album Review

The Very Best of Burl Ives Christmas delivers exactly what the title promises — some of the best holiday songs from a performer well-known for his Christmas albums. Ives' charming takes on "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Silent Night," "Winter Wonderland," "Silver and Gold," and, of course, "Holly Jolly Christmas" make these songs perennial Christmas presents.

Burl Ives Christmas

This isn't quite the original Burl Ives Christmas Album "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" but I'm going to recommend it anyways. I bought Holly Jolly Christmas about 10 years ago as a joke, but after listening to it for almost a decade it has become my favorite Christmas CD. It has some great classics on it and Burl Ives voice is so accessible that it's great to sing along with. This version is missing some selections such as "Snow for Johnny" and "Christmas Child", which to many are probably just filler, but I've grown attached to them. Seek them out if you can. "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" is sublime. Enjoy.

Burl Ives is christmas

I grew up with Burl Ives voice behind christmas songs and knew him as the story teller of many christmas television favorites. Its nice to see he is still here through his albums, thank you.

The Best of the Best

By the end of 1938, he had made his Broadway debut, and he also sang folk songs in Greenwich Village clubs. In 1940, Ives began to appear regularly on radio, including on his own show, The Wayfarin' Stranger, on CBS. Ives made his...
