Album Review

Joy: A Holiday Collection may surprise some Jewel fans, since it isn't a warm, intimate acoustic album. Then again, it may not, since it arrives on the heels of the exquisitely produced, unabashedly pop Spirit, which had lush musical backdrops for her folk-pop tunes. Joy is a full-bodied expansion of Spirit, however — an unashamed classicist Christmas album, featuring all of the usual carols delivered with strings and choirs. Because Jewel has a big, powerful, attractive voice, Joy works, even if it is a little too predictable for its own good — the closing "Christmas Version" of "Hands" is the only true signal, musically at least, that this is a Jewel number. Surely, this holiday album isn't a major addition to her catalog, but for hardcore fans, it may be a nice stocking stuffer.

Finally back

I was looking for this album for the Christmas period and I was surprised not to find it so I'm glad it was put back up!

This christmas collection is embraced by the purity of Jewel's voice.
The blend between the traditional songs and her self-penned songs is good.
Stand outs: Ave Maria, Winter Wonderland, Joy To The World, Face of Love.
But the whole album is worth every single penny of it :)

Amazing cd

Her vocals on this cd are outstanding.

The best Christmas album out there

I grew up listening to this album. I don't even know Jewel that well, but this album is pure gold. There is not one song I dislike. Jewel's voice is very beautiful and I love her adaptions to traditional Christmas music (especially "I Wonder as I Wander" + "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"), and I also enjoy the track "Hands". She redefines the spirit of Christmas for me!

Born: May 23, 1974 in Payson, UT

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

As a story, Jewel's origin is impossible to beat: on her way up, the singer/songwriter lived in a van on the West Coast, struggling to find an entrance to a career as a professional musician. This hardscrabble tale, only enhanced by her Alaskan upbringing, stood in direct contrast to the sweet, gentle hits "Who Will Save Your Soul," "You Were Meant for Me," and "Foolish Games" from her 1995 debut Pieces of You, songs that never suggested a tough background. Nevertheless, Jewel's sensitive side and...
