Great Music from Literally One of the Worst Movies Ever Made

I love Nellie, and Face of a Faith is a masterpiece. But this was a stunningly bad film: skip the film and buy all Nellie music you can find.

Cool project for a talented songwriter

I'm a little biased since I love Nellie McKay's music. She goes off the beaten path towards a more pop sound (Pasadena Girl), for which I give it 4 stars instead of 5. She may have written it, but it feels forced. The other tracks are wonderful, with her back and forth sing along with Taj Mahal (Baby you've got what it takes), and the sad and haunting Face of a Faith. Buy her whole catalog, you will not be disappointed.

I like how star studded this movie is. Great to see so many great actors in a comedy role. After a long week this movie hit the right spot... my funny bone. So it wasn't the stuff Oscar winning movies are made of... but what comedy is??? (On a personal note: I was shocked to notice how my Aunt Dot and Shirley MacLaine are so much alike! Live with that!)

But while McKay shares some of Jones' and Monheit's influences -- vocal jazz, cabaret, pre-rock Brill Building pop, torch singing -- and has some things in common with them melodically, it would be a huge mistake to lump her in with Jones, Monheit, and Diana Krall....
