Best Hip Hop Album Since Reflection Eternal!

I came across akua naru's music last week at a friend's party. We were (of course) discussing the present state of hip op, the politics of present day consciousness (or the absence of) in the music, and of course the presence of women in rap. A friend mentioned her music and showed a video. I was immediately blown away thinking "who is this sista??". I started googling...yesterday I bought the album. The album definitely took me on a journey. I have not heard this much love, truth, poetry, in hip hop since Lauryn Hill's The Miseducation or Kweli's Reflection Eternal. I can not stop banging this album. Last night I even had a few friends over and we tried to place her style...We agreed that we would have to put her on the level with Nas. The level of depth- layers and layers of meaning, word play, urban poetry, knowledge of history, conscious cultural critique is the best I have heard this millineum. It's unfortunate that there are not more woman going as hard. And she definitely goes hard...I mean, the first track The Ride, caught me by surprise, it is a definite banger, as well as, the track she has The Wound, feat. Blitz, who I had never heard of, but now I am definitely on to looking up because his verse was bananas, the track The Block is ridiculously dope, it moved me to tears. I can honestly say that there is not a track that I am not diggin. I mean, that joint The Journey was another one that touched me...and challenged me on a deeper level...and Poetry had me totally sold. Most definitely, I have not heard a woman bring this much honesty and lyricism since Lauryn. Yo...all that said. This album is a definite hip hop classic. Cop it! Word up.

Love this record!

I heard her first on college radio, so I was glad to find her on iTunes. Really really dope album!

This album shows the beautiful care for hip/hop. The sounds are a brilliant mix of lyrics that are filled deep with poetry. Nothing can compare to how this album moves from song to song each transition bringing in something new for the soul to listen too.
