iTunes Review

Run the Jewels is the result of collaboration between Killer Mike and El-P: one a ferociously political rapper from Atlanta, the other a New York rapper/producer who specializes in ferocious sonics. Their eponymous debut as a duo plays as a postapocalyptic vision of gangsta rap. The music is funky and the attitude violent, but it's surrounded by verbal and textural commotion. Language and noise both radiate from these songs like black steam from a long-dead engine. The songs are remarkably unified in tone and subject matter, but the album’s calling card is its title track: a volcanic and visceral hip-hop experience.

El-P & Killer Mike brazenly ignore the trend and continue to cultivate the Magical Seed that first bore fruit on Killer Mike’s R.A.P. Music and the upcoming Run The Jewels 2.

Best new hip-hop

C'mon people, regardless if you're able to download this and their more recent album for free; buy and support good music. Download it, love it, buy it.
