iTunes Review

Run the Jewels is the result of collaboration between Killer Mike and El-P: one a ferociously political rapper from Atlanta, the other a New York rapper/producer who specializes in ferocious sonics. Their eponymous debut as a duo plays as a postapocalyptic vision of gangsta rap. The music is funky and the attitude violent, but it's surrounded by verbal and textural commotion. Language and noise both radiate from these songs like black steam from a long-dead engine. The songs are remarkably unified in tone and subject matter, but the album’s calling card is its title track: a volcanic and visceral hip-hop experience.

Music, the duo released Run the Jewels in 2013, an album credited to Killer Mike and El-P and released on Fool's Gold. Critically popular and with a sizable fan base to boot, Run the Jewels quickly evolved into a going concern when their sophomore effort, RTJ2, landed in 2014.
