Album Review

A great bassist who played with The Meters in their glory years and has also backed many of New Orleans' finest R&B, blues, and soul vocalists got the spotlight on this '90s album. As with all Rounder releases, great care was taken to ensure that Porter was recorded working with top-flight musicians and playing the music he loved. Still, it wasn't quite up to the glory levels Porter reached with The Meters; it was well-played, sounded great, and had a contemporary flavor.

Porter remained in demand as a session musician for many years, and Runnin' Partner, his own 1990 album on Rounder, displayed his multi-faceted approach....
