Great followup to 2005's "Lane of Life".

Fenrik Lane is back with their sophomore effort "317." Hailing from the suburb of Åsane outside of Bergen, Norway, this trio has matured quite a bid since the release of "Lane of Life" five years ago. Actually, calling this a sophomore effort is actually a bit of a mis-gnomer as the band has released several EPs as a quartet earlier this decade under the name "Breed".

Overall, this album has great sound, especially on the single, track 3, "Diamonds in the Waste." Track 4 "Paranoia," Track 11 "Going Nowhere" and track 14 "Russian Roulette" all have that fast pop-rock sound you've come to expect by Fenrik Lane now.
Musically, this album is all over the place. Track 6 and 9 are the ballads, track 4 or 7 is straight up Rock, Tracks 1 and 11 have a certain pop-rock feel to it. Track 9 Bulletproof has a certain sense of Crash Test Dummies and Knut's vocals could easily be confused with that of Brad Roberts. (While this isn't a bad thing (I'm a huge Crash Test Dummies fan) it's not for everyone)).
Track 13 is good slow pop song with Knut's beautiful falsetto and equally beautiful chorus.

Sadly, the best track is their oh-so-awesome cover of Rihanna's "Russian Roulette." Alas, this is also the reason I can't give this album 5 stars; Overall the album is just un-even enough for the cover to be the best track. I would have preferred if the album had 10 tracks (plus the bonus cover-song) and saved three songs for a new album in a couple of years. This should't stop anyone from buying the album though;

Last comment: The positives far outweigh the negatives here; You wont be let down.

Disturbia Cover

The cover of Rihanna's Disturbia is FAR BETTER than her original version!
