Customer Reviews

The primary instrument on all the songs is the PRIMA DOMRA, and it is played too loudly. Also, a Russian chromatic accordion (the bayan)would have been nice because it has the true Russian sound. The accordion player on this disc played on the musette (vibrato)reeds, and Russian accordions are "dry tuned," not musette. As a player on both types of accordions, I have a critical ear for the instruments on both the SAMOVAR recordings.
Finally, most of the songs they play are Gypsy and not Russian folk (русская народная песная). Otherwise, the music is very nicely done other than that it is always loud and dominated by the one instrument, the domra. More dynamics would have improved the recordings.
