One of my favorite albums of all time

If you are are new to Christie Front Drive and are thinking about purchasing a CFD album, this is a the best place to start. This album has some of their more accessible tunes on it as well. However, be noted this album has actually only six songs on it. If you are looking to purchase individual songs look at my recommendations below. That being said, for purities sake I'd download the whole album including instrumental tracks. Now for the review...

This album has two of CFD's top songs on it, About Two Days and Seven Day Candle. No other band past or present have managed to capture the sound CFD was able to create. Some folks label CFD as an "emo" band, yet that couldn't be farther than the truth using the modern definition. Does this album exude emotion? Plenty of it. However, they aren't as maudlin as the band Mineral, per se. CFD's ability to marriage two distorted guitars is a thing of beauty (see the break down on Seven Day Candle @ 2 mins 20 secs). Some people find the inability to decipher CFD's lead singer's lyrics as negative. On the other hand, I'd say it only adds to the potential of self interpretation on each song. There are defining moments in my life that a few CFD songs will always remind me of. If I knew exactly what he was saying in each song, perhaps the connection would not have been made. It was the comeliness of the guitars and the low but ardent vocals that have forever solidified my relationship with the music. Do your self a favor, turn of the terrible Hot Topic bubblegum punk and emo and purchase yourself this album. You'll be pleased...

PS This review is for the remastered version. I was initially hesitant but it sounds great...almost as good as the original vinyl. Cheers!

Denver-based emo band Christie Front Drive was formed in the autumn of 1993 by singer/guitarist Eric Richter, guitarist Jason Begin, bassist Kerry McDonald and drummer Ron Marschall. Despite a relatively small recorded output which included a self-titled EP, a split ten-inch with Boy's Life and an appearance on the (Don't Forget to) Breathe compilation, the group quickly earned legendary status in emo circles, and remains a major influence on up-and-coming artists. Following the completion of the...
