The Story of Sadhana

In Sanskrit Sandhana means ‘practice’. The deeper meaning of Sadhana is a spiritual practice that helps to cultivate self-knowledge and, ultimately, leads to inner freedom.
It is why Baird and Prana have gathered every Monday evening for the last 14 years. The singers of Prana show up regardless of whether or not they have an upcoming performance. They come for shadhana, a focused group meditation of sitting and singing Hersey’s compositions. His pieces are a blend of traditional western vocal music and the music of India, Tibet, Tuva, Bulgaria and Georgia with a strong emphasis on vocal harmonics.
The album closes with a collaboration with Krishna Das. As with Prana’s last CD, Gathering in the Light, Krishna Das is featured here on his chant, My Foolish Heart, which he sings over Hersey’s arrangement for Prana.
Prana is Peter Buettner, Amy Fradon, Julie Parisi, Renee Finkelstein, Kirsti Gholson, Julie Last, Julian Lines, Bruce Milner, & Joe Veillette. Additional vocals by Bar Scott & Leslie Ritter. Also featured: Jerry Marotta (drums and percussion), Subash Chandran (konnakol & ghatam)
and Ganesh Kumar (kanjira). The only instruments on this album are human voice and percussion.
