iTunes Review

Volume 3 features the best moments from the past few shows, like Neil Patrick Harris tearing up “Dream On” with Matthew Morrison. And remember the “Hell-O” episode with Jonathan Groff emoting through Lionel Richie’s “Hello” at the piano with Lea Michele? It’s all here, along with musical highlights from the “Bad Reputation” episode.

Glee's Music = Reboot of the Music Industry?? (Thanks to iTunes' Glee Marketing)

When Vol. 1 came out, we were excited about having the very first Glee CD. When Vol. 2 arrived, we were amazed by the improvements already made. The Madonna CD showed just how much covers of the originals can be dead on. Now we come to Vol. 3, and it's safe to say that this is probably the best collection yet. Not only is the selection of music still diverse and creative, it is amazingly original, ironic since all of the music is covers. There is definitely a little lean towards more theatrical music on this edition, which is appropriate since they help enhance the storyline of the episodes. It's clear on songs like "Home" and "Rose's Turn" that Glee wanted to make sure that us theater gleeks watching the show were satisfied with nods towards the musical theater genre. As hesitant as I am about the upcoming Lady Gaga episode, my worries are put to ease with two amazing covers, "Poker Face" being the better of the two. All I can say is that Glee is having a big impact on the music industry. With songs charting on the Hot 100 everyweek, it seems that Glee's popularity may help reboot the music industry in sales. It will be amazing to see how long Glee's success will run. My guess is that it will quite some time, thanks to albums like Vol. 3 that show us just how theatrical music can be.

For the Haters

I would love to know if all these closed-minded people who keep commenting that Glee is stupid and gay have even watched the show. Because, though most of the songs may not be better than the original, that's not the point... last I checked, most covers can't be better than the originals. To me, these are just new (and most of the time equal) versions of great songs that is helping a new generation of kids be exposed to older, great music.

And if you really believe all these kids are talentless, I'm sorry, but you're completely deaf and blind. I don't understand these people taking the time to comment such hate. I understand not liking something, but then why are you wasting your time writing about it? If it's not your thing, don't watch the show or listen to the music! It's that simple. Get a life and stop spreading your hate over everyone else. We're all sorry Glee covered one of your favorite songs (which, btw, they were given permission to use by the original artists)... but here's the thing... you don't have to listen to it! Imagine that. :)

Formed: 2009 in Hollywood, CA

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '00s, '10s

When Glee aired its first episode in May 2009, the TV show only attracted a fraction of the viewers who tuned in for American Idol, which was shown on the same channel just one hour prior. The numbers looked bleak, but Billboard's music charts told a different story the following week, when the Glee version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" became a Top Five hit. Performed during the pilot by the castmates themselves, the song eventually sold over 700,000 downloads and paved the way for Glee's...
