Dalida, The Queen

The Queen indeed. While I have not bought this particular album I have most of this songs on other albums purchased in Quebec and France. I also happen to have an excelent mix by a DJ. If you like pop and french pop, give it a chance. Dalida was one of those rare jewels that were put on the earth to give us fabulous songs, lyrics and alas like all other divas left us much too soon. She sold in excess of 120 millions songs worldwide and received too many awards to list. Get your french dictonary out and look up some of the words. It is worth it.

Dalida Suffers Still

Dalida, a beautiful and talented superstar plagued by tragedy throughout her life, must apparently endure even in death the injustice of having her music kept from the digital audience. A bawdy collection of remixes, this compilation robs Dalida of her passionate style, her words that burn, and replaces them with a series of lamentable synthesizations unworthy of the soul in her voice. The only thing redeeming this album is the cover picture, a relatively superior example of this heavenly diva. Fortunately her performances can be found on youtube. Otherwise I fear we might be bereft forever.

She really is The Queen.

It was a pleasant surprise to finally find Dalida's album in the american iTunes store but then I was surprised again to find that I already have all those songs on other albums. I really wish iTunes would add some more of her albums to the store so we could have a bigger choice of songs by this true diva. The songs on this album are great, but there's still a lot of her songs out there that are even better so if you never heard Dalida before give it a try you won't regret it. She trurly was the queen of french pop.
