iTunes Review

Featuring Little Feat's first new material in nearly a decade and drummer Gabe Ford on drums in place of the late Richie Hayward (who passed in 2010), Rooster Rag proves that the band is among the strongest Americana roots-rockers in a field that just saw Levon Helm take to the sky. The Willie Dixon–penned Little Walter classic "Mellow Down Easy" brings out the best in Sam Clayton, who sings it with all the grit in his soul. Paul Barrere cruises through the loose groove of "Just a Fever." Feat's four singers provide plenty of variety, and the group brings Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter to collaborate with Bill Payne on writing four tracks, including the funky rockers "Salome" and "Way Down Under" and the fiddle-fired title track. A touch of reggae informs "Jamaica Will Break Your Heart," while Fred Tackett nails the vocals on the bluesy mandolin and organ of "Church Falling Down." Decades on, Little Feat continues to showcase the understated beauty that naturally occurs when expert musicians get together and play in a room.

Little Feat!

Miss Richie's drumming--but this is a great album. Little Feat in any form is outstanding and every album is worth the wait.

Got a LOVE the Feat!

New material and many many years of their unique sound. So happy they didn't loose their classic sound.

The Feat roll on ...

You know, like all bands that continue over the long haul (40+ years & 16 studio releases in Little Feat's this case), and a few personal changes along the way (two founding members deceased) - a little change is bound to come. But what makes Little Feat such an awesome band, is that they still deliver sophisticated grooves. Authentic as ever. My favs here are Candyman Blues, A Church Falling Down, One Breath At a time, Tatooed Girl, & Mellow Down Easy. But like most LF albums, over time, you discover and fall in love the the nuances of all. Sophistifunk indeed!!!!

Though they had all the trappings of a Southern-fried blues band, Little Feat were hardly conventional. Led by songwriter/guitarist Lowell George, Little Feat were a wildly eclectic band, bringing together strains of blues, R&B, country, and rock & roll. The bandmembers were exceptionally gifted technically and their polished professionalism sat well with the slick sounds coming out of Southern California during the '70s. However, Little Feat were hardly slick -- they had a surreal sensibility, as...
