The "h" in the title says it all: This album is one of comedy's great tributes to New York—the accents, the city, and most of all, the people. Billy Crystal, voicing each character, populates Mahvelous with cranky grandpas, slick jazz musicians, and even his personified libido, scattering them across first-person stories and freewheeling parody songs. Crystal kills because he reproduces details as small as the hitch in the way an old man pronounces "bastard." This is a man who loves his subject.
