Reseña de álbum

If you have developed an interest in Caetano Veloso that goes beyond nominal, you really should own every record of his you can find. However, for the benighted who only want a taste, this is the best place to start. Translated, the title means "without handkerchief without passport," and while it's unclear what relevance that has, it is clear that you will not find a better single-disc overview of Veloso's prodigious output — that is, up until 1984. Opening with the most famous song from his early period (1968's "Alegria, Alegria" — with fuzztone psychedelic guitars!), this disc covers the best music from his long relationship with Phillips including "Soy Loco por Ti, America" (written by Gilberto Gil), "Voce e Linda," "Lua de Sao Jorge," and 15 more. Although he's recorded much great music after 1984, this is the best place to start. Originally available only as a Brazilian import, the disc has since been released in American with more comprehensive English liner notes.

Bom demais

As someone has already said, this review above is NOT for this album, so disregard it. This best of actually IS a good representation of Caetano's work overall, earlier as well. This album can serve as a great introduction to the work of this fantastic artist. He is someone who has dabbled in many genres and who has always written quality lyrics. He seems to have gotten some what cocky in his old age, but not completely for no reason. He really is an amazing artist. Must hear tracks on this one include: Alegria, Alegria, Tropicalia, Lua de São Jorge, Leãozinho, Sampa and Beleza Pura. Give this a go if you want to try something different from mainstream international music or even just something very creative yet beautiful.

A Great Review of Cae the Revolutionary to Cae the Epicurian

The title of this compilation, "Sem lenço, sem documento" refers to the second line of "Alegria, Alegria." It means carefree. The song, which was booed by the radical left-wing younger generation at the time for the inclusion of electric guitars in Brazilian music, as was Gil's "Domingo no Parque" with the Mutantes, marks a change in Brazilian music that came to stay. The first four songs are from that era, Tropicalismo. The others are from the era of his return from exile. They vary from political themes to the celebration of beauty, dance, nature, stemming from a more relaxed Caetano. This is the greatest compilation possible.

iiiips, i mean oops
