Editors’ Notes

Let’s strip away all irony and embrace this gazillion-selling soundtrack for what it is: a near-perfect double album of pristinely distilled soul, R&B, and funk that wrenched disco out of the American underground and shifted pop culture in ways that rivaled The Beatles. It’s a conclusive cultural timepiece full of dancefloor chemistry and impeccably crafted songs. The Bee Gees, who were already on the downside of a career as melancholy psych-poppers turned dance maestros, here chirp and groove with world-dominating aplomb. They effortlessly equate dancing with all manner of escapism, from sex (“You Should be Dancin’”) to living for the night (“Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever”) to falling in love (“How Deep Is Your Love”). They even croon about avoiding energy-sapping harpies (“Jive Talkin’”). The non–Bee Gees songs are all stand-alone dance classics in their own right (KC & The Sunshine Band’s killer “Boogie Shoes,” Yvonne Elliman’s take on The Bee Gees' “If I Can’t Have You,” The Trammps' iconic “Disco Inferno”), but in this context they come off like excuses to get to next Bee Gees tune, so great is that trio’s presence.

Customer Reviews

I couldn't wait to get home tonight and rush to my computer to order this album. As I was driving home tonight, I heard "Stayin' Alive" on a local radio station and it brought back some very good memories. On many occasions, a long time ago, I danced to alot of the Bee Gee's music and treasure those times. I know I'm a lot older (66) than most of the people that use Ipod's and the iTunes store but I am delighted that this album became available. I look forward to looking for more of "my favorites."

you know what? i AM an itunes customer who's under 20, and i think this is only the BEST soundtrack EVER on the face of the planet! and certainly one of the best albums of all time! my mom rocked out to it, and guess what? i do too! long live great music! because today is nothing compared to then...

Best Soundtrack Of All Time!

The top selling soundtrack is finally on itunes! This ia an amazing soundtrack mainly due to the Bee Gees hits. This album will lift happy spirits higher with songs like "Night Fever," will make young and old get out on the dance floor for songs like "You Should Be Dancing," and gets everyone to strut their stuff to "Stayin' Alive." This is one soundtrack no one should pass up!
