Album Review

Following two short-lived live reunions in 2004 and 2006, Extreme reconvened for real in 2007, which inevitably led to the release of Saudades de Rock. Core members Gary Cherone (vocals), Pat Badger (bass), and Nuno Bettencourt (guitar) are joined by former DramaGods/Satellite Party drummer Kevin Figueiredo (who built a grooving kinship with Bettencourt in both aforementioned bands). In many ways, Saudades picks up right where 1995's Waiting for the Punchline left off. Like the previous album, the new material boasts a raw, live-in-the-studio vibe. Fans familiar with Extreme's instrumental muscle and genre-jumping style can expect plenty of diversity here, from the requisite funk metal ("Run," "Comfortable Dumb") to countrified rock ("Take Us Alive"), to more gentle, piano-driven ballads ("Ghost," "Peace").

Still Got It

These guys can play most bands under the table. Nuno is pure talent and Gary is hands down one of the best singers in the biz. EVH had him for one album and foolishly let him get away. THANK GOODNESS! Gary and Nuno belong together, their vocals just fit together perfectly. Just the worlds perfect band!

A very underappreciated album and band.

For everyone who only know Extreme from their "More than Words" 15 minutes of fame on MTV, you have to listen to their albums in their entirety. This is a band that is not afraid to take a cornicopia of styles and throw them all in the cooking pot to see what comes of it. You will find everything from Heavy Rock to Guitar pyrotechnics to haunting ballads to funk to country swing. If you appreciate bands that can stretch and challenge both themselves and their listeners that don't just buy one song - buy the whole album.

Best band of Generation X

This is the ultimate band of our generation. No other bands even come close. Though they would never accept that compliment. They are a perfect mix of all music genre's and perform with precision and ease. Not an easy thing to accomplish. I love all four of them. Five when you factor in Paul Geary! I want to be buried with all six of their albums. The sixth should be out soon:)

Formed: 1985 in Boston, MA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s

Extreme's music was never easy to classify, since it rarely confined itself to heavy metal, hard rock, or pop. The Massachusetts-based band formed in 1985; guitarist Nuno Bettencourt had already played in a local band with bassist Pat Badger, while singer Gary Cherone fronted his own group with drummer Paul Geary. The two bands eventually merged, and Cherone and Bettencourt formed a songwriting partnership that would soon place Extreme atop the Billboard charts, if only for a short period. Coupling...
