Album Review

When former Miss America/Penthouse poser Vanessa Williams picked up a microphone in 1988 with The Right Stuff, her managers did the business-smart, and expected, thing: They buried her beneath a coat of glossy production and dancefloor beeps and bips to disguise whatever vocal shortcomings this walking mannequin might have. But a funny thing happened within a few years. It turned out that Williams, when given the right material, could actually sing. And when handed torch songs that emphasized her natural slow burn — like on the glorious ballad "Save the Best for Last" — Williams was a genuinely sexy and capable performer. Greatest Hits: The First Ten Years gathers the biggest 13 songs from her first decade. The club tunes are generic and could be served just as well by anyone, but the finest tunes here ("Save the Best for Last," "Love Is," and "Colors of the Wind") are smoldering slices of R&B that certify Williams is more than just a pretty face.

"LOVE IS"....not found on iTunes.

If there is one tune on this entire album that all listeners/fans of Vanessa Williams wanted to hear, it is "LOVE IS", her hauntingly beautiful duet with Brian McKnight. What kind of sense does it make to leave it off of the album? In one breath the Apple critic praises the song as among the best on the album, and in the next, rather offhandedly remarks that it is not included on the album. Is this a deliberate attempt to handicap Vanessa's legend with what is to probably be one of the most downloaded songs in iTunes history? We shall see Dudes and Dudettes. STAY iTUNED...

Where is the duet with Brian Mcknight "Love Is"

I'm glad I read these first. The only song I wanted was Love Is with B. McKnight, why was only a partial album released on Itunes? Don't get this album if you are looking for this song, it is not here.

Love Is....MISSING!

Why put such a great album on the Music Store when the best song is missing...what is up with that - Apple get it right!! If this was a complete album the rating would have been much higher..

When Vanessa Williams began her singing career, she was known chiefly as the Miss America pageant winner who'd been forced to renounce her title for posing in Penthouse magazine. Williams not only put the scandal behind her, she all but obliterated it, turning out a series of slick, sophisticated hits that made her one of the most popular adult contemporary R&B singers of her time. In addition to her broad crossover appeal, she established a parallel acting career in both film and television, and...
