The Return Of Kay

It seems her debut album might never get to see the light of day, however, at least Kay keeps us hoping with her second EP release, "Say What You Want". It's unfortunate that the EP is so short, especially since the third track, "Hot", was released onto Kay's SoundCloud page quite some time ago, and that the fourth song is simply a remix of the second song, titled "Rewind The Track". You might want to do so after this one finishes, however, as Kay's soothing vocals over one of Doctor Rosen Rosen's unique sonic beats creates a song so beautiful and electronic that it seems it would fit perfectly on Madonna's 2000 album "Ray Of Light". However, what is missing on this EP is Kay's funky side that she showcased on her first release, with the cheeky songs "My Name Is Kay", "Diddy Dum", and "M.A.J.O.R.". Personally, I think if she keeps making these electronic songs, she should even it out with some signature pop songs too, that way if we ever do get to see the release her debut album, (the title track says it will drop in June), it will be well worth the wait!

A bit disappointed.

The only track that I absolutely love on this EP is Say What You Want. I think that Rewind the Track is pretty decently executed, but for some reason I'm just not feeling it. I heard Hot on Kay's soundcloud quite a long time ago. The thing about that song that really bugs me is the lyrics. Kay has been so much more clever than that in the past, and if the beat doesn't catch my attention right away and the lyrics are questionable, I can't get into the song. Really what makes this a 4 star EP for me is Say What You Want. The vocals are great, the energy is great, and the lyrics are pretty clever. The end of the song makes me laugh every time. "Ice cold… like the chocolate milkshakes we're serving on my yacht!" I also miss the upbeat, fun songs that really got my hooked on Kay's music. "My Name Is Kay, M.A.J.O.R., etc.) I'm fairly certain that she won't be giving up that style though; she seems to be pretty aware of trends. I'm still not giving up on this girl even though this isn't my favorite release of hers. I can't wait for more!
