iTunes Review

David Bowie entered the ‘80s with a bang. There's a gripping sense of foreboding throughout Scary Monsters, and the eternally poised Bowie has rarely sounded more like a man with an axe to grind, while the aggressive riffs of "It's No Game (No. 1)" and the title track slice the air around him. At the same time, the funky "Fashion" and swirling, spacey "Ashes to Ashes" show Bowie's knack for off-kilter pop appeal. This is the kind of monster you want to spend quality time with.

Simply Brilliant

This is perhaps David Bowie's most brilliant album. It has always struck me that this is the culmination of all the Ziggy Stardust insanity, quick rise to fame, etc, re-framed through everything Bowie had learned working with Brian Eno. Plus, amazing guitar work from Robert Fripp (and a guest appearance by Pete Townsend, too). This was New Romantic/Goth before its time. Needs to be heard as a whole album.

How can this be Bowie’s most popular (and most interesting and respected) album on iTunes and have no user reviews? Ok I’ll be the first to say it. This is my favourite and the best album he ever made, and he’s made a LOT of unbelievably amazing ones. It’s really challenging though so don’t expect some pop album full of hits. For that buy Let’s Dance or Changes but it you want one album to take to a deserted island to listen to for the rest of your life get this one.

35 years after it's release this record sounds just as fresh and vital as ever. David Bowie is truly a creative genius.
