About Marc Albrecht

Known for his expertise in the operas of Wagner and Richard Strauss, as well as his deep involvement in contemporary music, Marc Albrecht is a frequent guest conductor of Europe’s most prestigious orchestras and opera houses. He is the son of conductor George Alexander Albrecht, with whom he studied, and former ballet dancer Corinne Albrecht. He has been an assistant to Claudio Abbado with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and worked with Gerd Albrecht at the Hamburg State Opera. He served as the music director of the Staatsheater Darmstadt from 1995 to 2001 and was guest conductor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. From 2005 to 2011, he was artistic director and chief conductor of the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, where he led several recording sessions for the PentaTone label. Albrecht began working with De Nederlandse Opera in 2008 and became chief conductor of the company in 2009, as well as conductor of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.
