Guilty Pleasure!

I downloaded this due to Trifonov’s involvement and admit that I don’t especially love the violin, (piano is my favored instrument) but this recording is just wonderful!!!
Upon first listen I didn’t think I was going to love this recording, and then Anne-Sophie did something unexpected with her violin and I shivered and my spine tingled and I was in rapture! Make no mistake about it, this is all about Mutter. She brings it! She’s got the bling! She sparkles and shines, making her violin sing and soar and setting the pace for the others. It’s hard to outshine Trifonov, IMHO, but he seems to stand back a bit, though when he comes to the forefront his playing is as dazzling as you could hope. The other musicians are no slouches either, but again, this is the Anne-Sophie show so be prepared!
Dramatically speaking, this “Trout” is waaaay over the top - hence the guilty pleasure - but there’s oh so much to love here, though I know I shouldn’t! While I don’t think it’s as well-balanced as other recordings I’ve heard, that hasn’t stopped me from listening to it obsessively from original download.
The other piece I loved on the recording was the closing, “Ave Maria”, so sweetly beautiful that it can send you into a sugar coma! (In a good way). I’m very glad I added this to my collection. Please don’t tell anyone I know!
