If exploiting the microscopic compositional possibilities enabled by digital recording and editing technologies can be considered a distinct new genre, then Explorers_We is its first masterpiece. At first blush formless and chaotic, the CD's hour-plus collage of vocal bits, sound bytes, and fractured song fragments begins gradually to cohere into something remarkable and seductive. Farmers Manual write songs like frozen juice containers-concentrated, and requiring a bit of elbow work. But once the right ratio of ideation and assent has been found, Explorers_We is a true delight.
