iTunes Review

As the follow-up to the highly successful album At Home and its mega-hit single, “Venus,” Scorpio’s Dance finds the Dutch group enjoying the majesty of its singer Mariska Veres who adds a distinctive power to everything she touches. “Alaska Country” takes off on some tough piano chords. Hank Cochran’s “Sally Was a Good Old Girl” succeeds with a tight arrangement. “Deamon Lover” works though six minutes of sensual tension. The group understood the importance of primal performances where each instrument plays for maximum impact. The sound begins in the garage and spreads out into a mild psychedelia that leaves little room for improvisatory self-indulgence. The bonus cuts, “Send Me a Postcard” and “Hello Darkness,” are every bit as essential as the official album cuts, which also include a few interesting side trips. “Scorpio’s Dance” is a piano instrumental. “I Love Voodoo Music” is a mystical acoustic number that features an odd tribal break. “Seven Is a Number In Magic” skims the blues. Shocking Blue remains one of the late ‘60s’ and early ‘70s’ most fascinating groups.

So sad

This album, this band- It's yet another example of everything wrong with the music *industry*. More good music, from a talented artist, shuffled under the carpet simply because a "hit single" couldn't found to hype.

So Good!

I just purchased Scorpio's Dance . . . The Third for this great band that was only known in the U.S.A. for the song Venus. I always loved that song, and just recently was previewing the clips from their first three records and discovered their extensive catalog. WOW! This was a great band, great songs, and a fantastic female singer. If you are a fan of rock bands from the late 60's early 70's, this is a must have! A band that needs to be heard more! I plan on spreading the word!

Love shocking blue

Demon lover is an amazing song!

Formed in 1967 by former Motions guitarist Robbie van Leeuwen, the Dutch quartet Shocking Blue originally had a lineup of VanLeeuwen on guitar, lead vocalist Fred DeWilde, bass player Klaasje Van der Wal, and drummer Cornelius Van der Beek, and the initial configuration of the band had a minor homeland hit with “Lucy Brown Is Back in Town” a year later in 1968. Things really got moving, though, when DeWilde was replaced by sultry singer Mariska Veres, whose sexy presence and solid singing brought...
