iTunes Review

Judas Priest was riding a wave of heavy metal resurgence—partly brought about by its own British Steel album—when it released Screaming for Vengeance in the summer of 1982. The album is one of several career high points, featuring fan favorites such as "Electric Eye," "Riding on the Wind," "Bloodstone," and the title track. Elsewhere, "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" and "(Take These) Chains" proved that Priest could write pop songs with real bite, while "Pain and Pleasure" expresses the band's philosophy. This 30th-anniversary edition features a handful of tracks recorded at the San Antonio Civic Center on Sept. 10, 1982; they were originally broadcast as a radio special and are among the group's best live recordings. "Prisoner of Your Eyes" is a studio outtake from the 1985 Turbo sessions that's closer in style to Vengeance. "Devil's Child" was recorded live at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis on Dec. 12, 1982.

Judas Priest was one of the most influential heavy metal bands of the '70s, spearheading the New Wave of British Heavy Metal late in the decade. Decked out in leather and chains, the band fused the gothic doom of Black Sabbath with the riffs and speed of Led Zeppelin, as well as adding a vicious two-lead guitar attack; in doing so, they set the pace for much...
