iTunes Review

Upon its 1987 appearance, Screaming Life, Soundgarden's first EP, made it apparent that the alternative scene—which had started with punk and new wave and from there rallied against arena rock and classic rock—had come full circle and was now the breeding ground for a band openly influenced by Led Zeppelin. Chris Cornell’s shirtless postures and vocal wails were closer to Robert Plant than to Joe Strummer or Henry Rollins, and the waves of guitar driving “Hunted Down,” “Entering," and “Nothing to Say” were jammed with riffs from ‘70s hard rock bands. 1988’s Fopp cleaved closer toward the grunge that their label Sub Pop was becoming known for, with covers of Green River’s “Swallow My Pride” and The Ohio Players’ “Fopp” and the rough ’n’ randy “Kingdom of Come.” “Sub Pop Rock City” appeared on Sub Pop 200 but never quite became the anthem it sounds like.

i have the original 12" of fopp and screaming life (orange vinyl) these are truly classics. if you bought only a couple songs get hand of god, little joe if you like those two then just keep buying lol

Finally :-)

We've been waiting/hoping for this since the 2 song tease on Record Store Day that had Hunted Down and Nothing To Say remastered. Ordering hard copy to keep unopened and iTunes copy for immediate gratification.

Hand of God!!!!

I bought this when I was in Singapore and its been in my spin ever since. To see they remastered it makes me curious to see what they did with some of the tracks. Hunted Down has to be some of the coolest lyrics ever written by anyone. However, the two strongest tracks on here has to be Nothing to Say and Hand of God. Both are stone cold classics. The FOPP EP is by far the most messed up out put from the band which shows they don't take themselves too seriously. This album is a great intro to the band. I can't wait for them to remaster Badmotorfinger!!!!

Soundgarden made a place for heavy metal in alternative rock. Their fellow Seattle rockers Green River may have spearheaded the grunge sound, but they relied on noise rock in the vein of the Stooges. Similarly, Jane's Addiction were too fascinated with prog rock and performance art to appeal to a wide array of metal fans. Soundgarden, however, developed directly out of the grandiose blues-rock of Led Zeppelin and the sludgy, slow riffs of Black Sabbath. Which isn't to say they were a straight-ahead...
