Album Review

Though Marc Anthony was by many standards an established presence in the field before the 1995 release of Todo a Su Tiempo, it was this record that announced his reign as the crown prince of salsa. Previous projects had shown promise and abundant talent, but never before the level of polish, taste, and confidence present here. His second album with producer Sergio George was certainly a step forward from their 1993 release of Otra Nota. Two years seem to have cleansed this creative duo of its desire for the emotive pop schmaltz that plagued its previous record. Free from these self-destructive longings, George and Anthony set to crafting a crystalline, shimmering, and yet warm contemporary salsa sound that would set the bar for the decade. With musicians like bass player Ruben Rodriguez, percussionists Bobby Allende, Marc Quiñones, and Luis Quintero, trumpet player and arranger Angel Fernandez, and several other modern masters, this is one for the books, vocal performance notwithstanding. Anthony's voice is soaring and luminescent, as salsa lovers have now come to expect of him. With an enviable range and perhaps the finest improvisational abilities on the scene today, Marc Anthony has earned his reputation. Todo a Su Tiempo is without question one of the finest salsa records of the '90s. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez, Rovi

Does it once again

This album has a great flow from strat to finish! "Te Conozco Bien", "Hasta Ayer", "Nadie Com Ella", instant classics that still touch you. And how the album warps up with "Por Amar Se Da Todo" to "Vieja Mesa". What else can be said, this is an album that makes you want to dance.

Marc Anthony...One of Salsa's best...

Marc Anthony is by far one of the best salseros to come out in the 1990's. His continue sucess is just a reflection of how great his music is and how it transends the generations. This cd is by far one of my favorites. Nadie como ella and Te conocco bien are wonderful songs.

Fate

Briefly it is he fate of a bird to fly. It is the fate of a eagle to soar. As such , it is the fate of a voice like Marc Anthony's to fly and/or soar. You hear it, you feel it you experience it, but still it feels constrained unless it truly soars. On "Todo A Su Tiempo", it soars. With few exceptions more so then his English Debut, "Marc Anthony". In Spanish, you not only hear the rafters echo with this rich voice, you hear the passionate sounds you would see in a bird, achieving his destiny. He moves and emotes you like it was his very, very last performance. On his "Marc Anthony" release you only hear this occassionally on tunes like "My Baby You" and the show stopper "How can I". here every song is a show stopper, but so deep fealth and passionate, the show does as it must. It goes on.
To be sure, he voice is actually rather underdeveloped, but like a diamond, you hear the sparkle. The only damger is here is "Vieja Mesa" is more a reprise then a finisher and many of these songs will make you long for a woman in your arms. b etter to have one before listening. The passion is unattenuated and abundent. You must have this one.
