Chiara's Next Triumph

Our favorite MoonChild stuns again. Chiara's sultry and velvety voice seduces from a gentle distance. To listen to her senses through song is to peek into a passionate and bared soul, loving and living every moment of life's curious journey. Melancholy, wonder, impatience, and constant exploration are her companions. And though the listener is intimate with Chiara's experiences, she seems to barely notice that we're there. Her path is personal and rich, and we are voyeurs. Her honesty is all the more real and powerful as she sings for herself and her memories. And we are lucky to ride along. As with her first album, the orchestration is brilliant, fresh, and lyrically harmonious. Her players are masterful and respectful; they tease Chiara's words into joyful and expressive sentiment. Chiara's English lyrics are again amazing - how can an Italian woman choke so much passion and intimacy from this language? It seems a bit unfair that her songs are so emotive in her second (or third, or fourth) language, but I suppose talent is like that. Chiara's second album - she (and her guys) triumph again with grace and style and charisma.

A Nice Jazz/Folk Feel

The Space Between is finally released in North America -- I had the pleasure of experiencing Chiara perform many of these selections live last autumn. These compositions accentuate Chiara's artistry and her guitar writing versatility complements Last Quarter Moon. A nice jazz/folk feel -- I can't help but think of a female James Taylor!

The Space Between

I discovered Chiara Civello while traveling in Italy. So happy to see it on ITunes. You can play it all day and never grow tired of her voice. Lovely.

Genre: Jazz

Years Active: '00s

Originally from Rome but now based in New York City, Italian singer/songwriter Chiara Civello is an eclectic, far-reaching artist who brings a variety of pop, jazz, cabaret and Latin influences to the table. Although Civello has performed straight-ahead jazz in the past, she is not a full-time jazz singer or a bebop purist by any means; stylistically, much of the material she has recorded for Verve is closer to Sade, Basia, Norah Jones, Nellie McKay (minus the eccentricity and sharp-tongued humor)...
