ATLANTIC JAZZ: Great Moments In Jazz. Search by "Album" and you'll find it -- all of it.

If you're going to get any Billy Cobham disc - this should be the one. That is all......

Jazz-Fusion 101: Spectrum

What happens when you mix the performances of a Panamanian drummer, an Eastern European pianist, one of the most chilled-out and groovy bassists and a rock guitarist on one album - oh yeah, and a great horn section? Spectrum is what happens. Billy Cobham proves that you don't have to gobble up all the limelight on your own solo record; most of the time he just sits back with Lee Sklar on his Fender bass and grooves under the amazing solos of Jan Hammer and Tommy Bolin. Also, Ron Carter lends a helping hand to the title track and "Le Lis" in the form of his amazing acoustic bass performace. If you or anyone you know is not well-versed in "groove," just listen to the amazing "Red Baron." Afterwards, if you still can't quite grasp "groove," music is probably not really your thing. This album is quite possibly the finest example of Jazz-Fusion to ever grace human ears. Too bad iTunes neglected to include one of my personal favorites, "Stratus," with this download - 5 stars for the album ; negative 5 stars for iTunes!

At his best, Cobham harnessed his amazing dexterity into thundering, high-octane hybrids of jazz complexity and rock & roll aggression. He was capable of subtler, funkier grooves on the one hand, and...
