Disapointed by lack of original material

Voices sound great as always, but it was a letdown to hear only new versions of older songs as well as recordings of already wll known and frequently recorded worship songs. I miss the songwriting talent and original writing that was present in their early albums and it would have been great to get fresh new content from this once ground-breaking trio.

Kinda Washed-Up

From the lack of original material to the overproduced, slick and synthetic vocals First Call's Second Birth oozes with disenchantment.

First Call is Back!

I absolutely loved this long-awaited release from First Call! Each song is so unique and was arranged in such beautiful ways.

Their take on "In Christ Alone" brings to mind scenes of the crucifixion and resurrection and they celebrate what Jesus did for us. Instead of following the same tempo throughout, as others have done, they build in intensity, both orchestral and vocal, and it gave me chills.

"Wade In The Water" is a fun, African-sounding acappella song, and the upbeat, gospel-choir feel of "Mighty To Save" is the best version of that song I've ever heard!

The mashup of two versions of "Majesty" is such a creative way of bringing the current era and the 1980s together. I remember learning the older version in my teens, and hearing it alongside the newer song (different one but same theme) was a lot of fun.

Finally, I loved the new recordings of two First Call standards: O Sifuni Mungu and Lord Of All. Wow! How they can keep their amazing vocal strength after 30 years is just incredible. One thing I noticed is just how effortlessly their voices blend - they've had so much practice at it that I could imagine them recording these with no charts of sheet music at all - just letting their hearts lead them and their voices knowing the way. New vocal inflections not on past versions highlight what these songs mean to them.

This will be on heavy rotation on my iPod. Simply amazing recording.
