Album Review

If you're not old enough to realize how much Denison Marrs singer Eric Collins sounds like Bono, then you'll probably notice how much he sounds like Coldplay's Chris Martin on this, the band's second album. And on the album's first track, a sturdy rocker titled "Disappear," guitarist Daniel Day sounds an awful lot like the Edge as well. But on most of the rest of the album the U2 similarities are limited to Collins' voice and inflections, which at times border on slavish imitation. Like most of their labelmates, Denison Marrs are explicitly Christian in their lyrical outlook, as song titles like "You Are Everything" and "Secret Sinners" suggest and lines like "We are saved by grace" and "We hold the truth of all truths inside" make pretty clear. Because the band tried to "let the songs do what they wanted to do" this time out, the songs aren't terribly hooky or tightly crafted. But they do pack an impressive sonic wallop and they generally have a sort of organic cohesiveness that works especially nicely on "War Against Unlove" and the chunky, assertive "Dancing Over Me." Recommended.

Ummm... A Correction

This is not Denison Marrs second album. In point of fact, it is their fourth studio album, along with one split EP with Stavesacre. I felt the need to point it out since their finest work was before these two discs. Don't get me wrong. These albums are great, but their self-titled disc on 6X6 Records and World Renown For Romance on Velvet Blue Music are their finest pieces of work. Check them out.

Wish They Never Disbanded

If you're a fan of Denison Marrs you'll like this album. While it is not their best effort, it is still a good listen. "Dancing Over Me" is the track that stands out the most. They ended their run the way they started it...very artistically.

Wonderful way to exit

Their swan song has all the catchy choruses mixed with the more experimental rock they've been known for. All around great CD with a killer of a last song. Goodbye...Farewell is their best song other than maybe Keepin' it Cool. Great, underrated band. Wish they would have lasted longer.
