iTunes Review

The South African alt-metal standard bearers’ 2014 album puts its own enraged, dispirited, anthemic twist on classic Seattle-style grunge. “Suffer It All” rides a steamrolling forward chug, and the groove of “Words As Weapons” is superbly fluid. And if you wonder where guitar-shredding growler Shaun Morgan’s head is at, “Save Today” (“I never learn from my mistakes”) and the almost jangly “Nobody Praying For Me” (“I’m the bullet in a loaded gun”) get the point across quite directly.

Mad World

Listen close to words as weapons and it's hard to deny that they stole the lyrical melody from "mad world" but it sounds awesome, so I could really care less.

So I never review things on here but I HAVE to make an exception for this album. I've been a Seether fan since Disclaimer II and I own all of their albums. Isolate and Medicate feels different from past albums, and some songs might not appeal to the Disclaimer crowd but coming from someone who has enjoyed each and every album, this one blows all their previous ones out of the water. Shaun still has the gruff vocals and screams we all love, and even takes a few chances by incorporating different vocal techniques that Seether aren't known for. Dale has some great basslines, from really meaty ones to slower more atmospheric tones as well as some good harmonies and back up vocals. As a drummer myself, John has been a huge inspiration and does not fail to deliver on this album. With some clever beats and great fills, I can't wait to learn these on drums. The songs range from heavy, guitar driven tracks, to slower, more atmospheric stuff showcasing the guys' softer side and everything in between. This is a MUST BUY. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Words As Weapons sounds fantastic! Gonna be the best Seether album yet!

Hailing from South Africa and comprising members Shaun Morgan (vocals, guitar), Dale Stewart (bass), and John Humphrey (drums), Seether embrace a brand of heavy metal mostly associated with the post-grunge era of alternative music, complete with crunchy distortion and brooding textures. The band emerged in 1999 as Saron Gas (a name taken from the back of a sound effects CD) and released its debut album, Fragile, the following year on Musketeer Records. In a country whose musical tastes center around...
