Legendary crew

This album is great. In this record The Roots started to expand their musical genius which should be in every Roots fan collection.

This is one of the Top 3 Roots albums!

I disagree w/ John's review & agree w/ the first review or last review.
This was the Roots at their pinnacle! They were at a crossroads with their sound & audience ("the Seed", "Rock You", "Break You Off") and eternal conflict ("the Water"-dedicated to Malik B)...They channeled all that angst into a brilliant collection of music that both expanded & defied the boundaries of Hip-Hop music! The Roots literally took themselves seriously as a band & challenged their fans to be more open to their audio sonic journey. Fortunately for us we got to enjoy the whole exciting ride of an album!

Overrated

The beats by questlove are great but the overall album lacks staying power to really stay in my collection..I had a friend who bought this album when it came out and I remember him saying as a Roots fan, that the songs were stale and the rapping sounded the same on every song.. I totally agree

They went platinum and gold with successive...
