Album Review

The ultimate New Traditionalist factory songwriter, Overstreet's best work is the series of hits he wrote (usually with Don Shlitz) for Randy Travis in the 1980s. On his own, as evidenced by this collection, he's a bit too obsessed with convincing everybody that he's a good Christian man who just can't wait to get home to his wife. There's more to life — and music — than family values, no matter how you define them.

Good Stuff

There is nothing more significant in life--nothing that brings more joy to the human soul--than family. Overstreet's best work is the stuff you can get on this album, because it's his most honest. Thank heaven for people who are "obsessed with [family values]!"

Big Fan !!!

I really think Paul Overstreet is underappreciated by most country fans. I think he sings as well as he writes and he writes "Darn" well. But what is most important is that he followed the the Lords call in a different direction in music. Now the Christian Music industry gets to benefit from this enormous talent. When i listen to paul's music it really lifts me up!

what the 'heck' is wrong with 'darn' good songs concerning the 'cr--' we all worry about? i have always enjoyed this guy's music as pop, certainly much better fare than some or most of the 'darn cr--' played on my local 'country' music station here in philadelphia. "HEROES" brings tears. "BALL AND CHAIN" although a great pop tune, does not make me want to marry anybody. ha ha etc. etc. decent songs from a good writer. go ahead and write similar yourself, then go "----" yourself if you don't like what you've "c--" up with. the itunes reviewer needs to "lighten up".

Paul Overstreet was one of the most successful songwriters in contemporary country music, penning hits for artists like George Jones, Randy Travis, Tanya Tucker, and Marie Osmond, as well as scoring hits on his own. He wrote his first songs as a boy in Newton, Mississippi. In 1973, he graduated from high school and headed for Nashville, where he played in country bands at night and worked blue-collar jobs during the day. Despite his efforts, Overstreet couldn't break into the industry. Eventually,...
