An Offering of Essentials and Oddities

Sceptor Records Story vol. 3 contains some must-have cuts for anyone interested in the pop music of the late 60's and early 70's. While the offering of selections is uneven, the highlights are worth the price: "Timothy" (pop's first and only song about cannibalism!), the seminal works of B.J. Thomas, and, for me, the sweet pop-soul tune "Get On Up" by The Esquires. Roy Head, Maxine Brown, and some lesser-known acts are featured. There's nothing in this collection that charged the course of music, but this album will give your collection some fun and a special richness.

B.J. Thomas originals!

Five stars would have been given if the collection hadn't had so much padding, but the B.J. Thomas tracks make it worthwhile. For those who have suffered through latter day Thomas re-recordings, you will enjoy listening to these tracks that were originally heard on AM radio in the 60s and 70s.
